Dive into the luminous and captivating world of watercolor painting! Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refresh your skills, this course offers a supportive and inspiring environment to explore the unique properties of this beautiful medium. We’ll demystify the techniques that make watercolor both challenging and rewarding, from basic washes and layering to more advanced concepts like lifting, negative painting, and creating texture.
Through a series of engaging exercises and projects, you will learn to:
Understand your Materials: Get to know the different types of paper, brushes, and pigments, and learn how to choose the right tools for your creative vision; Master Foundational Techniques: Practice wet-on wet, wet-on-dry, and dry brush methods to control your paint and achieve a variety of effects; Explore Color Theory: learn to mix vibrant colors, understand color temperature, and create harmonious palettes for your painting; Develop Your Artistic Eye: work with still life, landscapes, and abstract compositions to improve your observation skills and find your personal style; and Troubleshoot Common Challenges: gain confidence in “fixing” mistakes and embrace the spontaneous nature of watercolor.
*This class is designed to be a relaxing and creative escape, focusing on process over perfection. You will leave with a portfolio of your own watercolor painting and the skills to continue your artistic journey long after the course is complete. Materials/Art Supplies Required: 11”x14” watercolor paper, Basic Sets of watercolor paints, and synthetic sable round brushes, 2 plastic plates as palettes, 2 plastic pint Solo cups.
