ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must be 16 years of age by the start of the first class and have a valid NY State Learner’s Permit (MV-100).  A student can register for the program without yet having a learner’s permit but MUST have obtained their permit by the first class.

  • Driver Education is a 48-hour program consisting of 16 – 1 ½ hour lecture classes and 16 – 1 ½ hour behind the wheel instruction. Attendance at all lecture classes and behind the wheel instruction is MANDATORY.

  • The lecture portion of the program will be taught in person by one of our certified mastered secondary teachers certified to teach Driver Education.  All lecture make-up classes must be done in the same week since each week/class will cover different chapter/material.

  • Behind the Wheel Instruction, students will be in a car with three other students and an instructor from The American Driving Academy.

  • All lectures and driving will take place at Arlington High School.  For the driving portion, students will be picked up and dropped off at Arlington High School in the front of the building.

  • This program teaches the student proper techniques, laws, and responsibilities pertaining to driving in New York State.

  •  At the completion of the course, students will receive their MV-285 which they can use to book their road test.  Once they have passed their road test, they are entitled to receive insurance discounts (depending on your insurance company), and once they are 17, obtain their senior license.

  • More than 4 absences may be cause for the student to be dismissed from the course.  Make-up driving sessions will be made for excused absences only (illness with doctors note or family emergency) and there may be an additional make-up fee.  Any absences in this session must be made up in the next session according to NYS DMV regulations.
